Woman Robbed
Ambala, Haryana: An 80-year-old woman living alone was allegedly assaulted and robbed by three unidentified men who entered her house in Prabhu Prem Puram, Ambala, late Monday night. The accused reportedly stole her gold earrings, ring and bangles before fleeing from the spot.
The victim, identified as Mithilesh Chopra, is the wife of a retired station master. Her husband died in 2009, and she has been living alone at her residence in the area.
According to the complaint, the incident took place at around 11 pm on Monday. The three accused allegedly climbed over the boundary wall and entered the house. They then entered the elderly woman’s room and threatened her, demanding that she hand over whatever valuables she had.
Elderly Woman Assaulted During Robbery
The woman reportedly tried to raise an alarm, but two of the accused allegedly punched and kicked her. Another accused is said to have pulled her hair and attempted to strangle her.
The attackers allegedly removed gold bangles, earrings and a ring from her. They also searched the cupboards and boxes inside the house. The woman became unconscious during the incident.
When she regained consciousness, the accused had already fled. She then contacted a relative and informed them about the incident.
The injured woman was taken to the Civil Hospital in Ambala Cantonment for treatment. Her condition was later reported to be improving.
Police Begin Investigation
After receiving information about the robbery, police teams reached the spot and began collecting evidence. Mahesh Nagar police station has initiated proceedings against three unidentified suspects under relevant robbery and attempted murder provisions.
Police are also examining CCTV footage from the surrounding area in an effort to identify the accused and establish their escape route.
Mahesh Nagar Station House Officer Devender Kumar said the victim’s health was improving and that teams were working to trace the suspects. Police said they expected to apprehend the accused soon.
The elderly woman has a married daughter who lives in another house nearby. The incident has raised concerns about the safety of senior citizens living alone in residential areas.
