Man Kidnapped in Honeytrap
Ambala: A man was allegedly trapped in a honeytrap, kidnapped from a hotel in Ambala Cantonment and taken to Zirakpur, where he was reportedly assaulted and threatened with a pistol before the accused allegedly extorted ₹2.98 lakh from him.
The incident came to light after the victim, identified as Raman Atri, approached the police and filed a complaint. Based on his statement, Padav police station registered a case against Arshdeep of Fazilka, Punjab; Ashish Malik of Ramgarh in Hisar; and Zoya Sharma of Sangam Vihar, Delhi.
Police have registered the case under provisions related to kidnapping and extortion. An investigation is currently underway.
Woman Allegedly Invited Him to Hotel
According to Raman Atri’s complaint, he had met a woman named Zoya at a party in Zirakpur around five to six months ago. On August 16, she allegedly called him and said that she was in Ambala and wanted to meet him.
Following her request, Raman booked Room No. 65 at the One Plus Hotel in Ambala Cantonment.
According to the complaint, Zoya arrived at the hotel room at around 2:30 a.m. on August 17. Between approximately 3 a.m. and 4 a.m., four men reportedly knocked on the door.
When Zoya opened the door, two men allegedly entered the room and claimed that she was one of their wives. They reportedly created an argument before allegedly forcing Raman into a car and taking him towards Zirakpur.
The victim told police that during the journey, the men called each other by the names Arshdeep, Ashish Malik and Jerry.
Victim Allegedly Beaten and Threatened
Raman alleged that after reaching Zirakpur, the accused began assaulting him. He further alleged that one of the men struck him on the forehead with the butt of a pistol.
According to his complaint, the accused threatened to kill him and demanded ₹5 lakh as ransom.
The accused allegedly took his phone and forced him to transfer ₹48,000 through Google Pay to an account.
The victim then reportedly contacted his friend Vikas under pressure and asked him to arrange money. Vikas allegedly arrived with his friend Brijmohan carrying ₹2.5 lakh in cash.
After allegedly receiving a total of ₹2.98 lakh, the accused reportedly released Raman.
Hotel Records Helped Identify Suspects
Raman told police that hotel records helped him identify the people allegedly involved in the incident.
According to the complaint, the accused had submitted identification documents at the hotel. The records reportedly contained the names and addresses of Arshdeep from Fazilka in Punjab, Ashish Malik from Ramgarh in Hisar and Zoya Sharma from Sangam Vihar in Delhi.
Raman said he works in the ice cream business.
Police Investigating the Case
Padav police station SHO Praveen Arya said the matter is currently under investigation.
Police are examining the allegations, hotel records and other available evidence to establish the circumstances of the alleged kidnapping and extortion.
The allegations made in the complaint are subject to police investigation, and further action will depend on the evidence collected during the probe.
