ITBP DIG Accident
Ambala/Saharanpur: A tragic road accident on the Dehradun-Panchkula National Highway claimed the lives of an Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and his driver. The accident occurred when the Scorpio in which they were travelling crossed the highway divider and crashed into an oncoming Swift car.
The deceased have been identified as ITBP DIG Parminder Singh, 55, and his driver Ravi Shankar, 35. Four other people were seriously injured in the accident and were taken to Government Medical College for treatment.
Scorpio Crossed Divider and Hit Swift
According to the available information, the accident took place near the Jhabiran cut on the Dehradun-Panchkula National Highway. The Scorpio carrying DIG Parminder Singh reportedly became uncontrolled, crossed the divider and landed on a Swift car coming from the opposite direction.
The impact caused serious injuries to the occupants of both vehicles. Police and local people reached the spot after being informed about the accident. The injured were taken to the medical college for treatment.
The four injured include ITBP gunner Jairam and three occupants of the Swift car, identified as Gurnam, Devendra Kaur and Gurnet, residents of Karnal district. They were reported to be seriously injured, while Devendra Kaur’s condition was described as critical.
DIG Was Returning to Ambala After Training
DIG Parminder Singh, who lived in Jaggi Colony, Ambala, was posted in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. He had travelled to the ITBP Centre in Mussoorie, Dehradun, to attend a training programme.
On Saturday, he was returning home to Ambala in his official vehicle. His gunner Jairam was also travelling with him. Ravi Shankar, a resident of Sona Arjunpur village in Nanota, was driving the Scorpio.
The accident reportedly occurred at around 9:30 AM near the Jhabiran cut while the vehicle was travelling along the highway.
Driver Also Died in the Accident
The collision left DIG Parminder Singh and driver Ravi Shankar critically injured. They were taken to Government Medical College, where doctors declared both of them dead.
After receiving information about the accident, DIG Abhishek Singh, District Magistrate Arvind Kumar Chauhan and SSP Abhinandan Singh reached the medical college and took information about the incident.
Parminder Singh was originally from Sri Anandpur Sahib in Ropar district, Punjab. After the post-mortem examination, his family took the body for the final rites.
His wife Sarabjit Kaur and sons Ekjot Singh and Prasimbarn Singh also reached the medical college after receiving news of the accident.
Police Investigating Cause of Accident
Traffic police have started investigating how the Scorpio lost control and crossed the divider. Officials are examining the circumstances that led to the collision.
SP Traffic Saharanpur Shailendra Kumar Srivastava said the ITBP DIG’s vehicle became uncontrolled and collided with another vehicle coming from the opposite direction. The exact cir cumstances behind the loss of control will be investigated.
The accident has raised concerns about road safety on the Dehradun-Panchkula National Highway, particularly at locations where vehicles cross or merge near highway cuts.
