Barara train death, AMBALA, August 6, 2026: The identities of the young man and woman who died after being struck by a train near the Markanda railway bridge in Shahabad have been confirmed. The deceased have been identified as 27-year-old Ankit, a resident of Adhoya village in Barara, Ambala district, and 22-year-old Ranjana, whose family originally belongs to Saharanpur but has been living in Adhoya for the past four years.
According to the police investigation, both individuals left their homes separately on August 2. Ankit reportedly told his family that he was going to purchase livestock, while Ranjana informed her family that she was leaving to buy medicine for stomach pain.
Couple Visited Markanda Temple Before Incident
Initial findings suggest that the two visited the Markanda Temple in Shahabad on the morning of August 2. After offering prayers, they were reportedly seen arguing in the temple parking area around 2 p.m. Witnesses stated that shortly after the argument, the pair walked towards the nearby railway track, where they were fatally struck by an oncoming train.
The impact was severe, and both victims died at the scene.
Family Reveals Relationship
Ankit’s father-in-law, Jaskaran, told investigators that Ankit and Ranjana were involved in a relationship. Ankit had been married for three years and is survived by his wife and a two-year-old daughter.
Ranjana’s brother, however, said he had no knowledge of the relationship.
Bodies Handed Over After Identification
Family members identified the bodies at Lok Nayak Jai Prakash District Civil Hospital on Wednesday. Following the post-mortem examination, the remains were handed over to the respective families.
Ankit was cremated in his native village of Adhoya, while Ranjana’s body was taken to Uttar Pradesh for the final rites.
No Complaint Registered
Government Railway Police (GRP) Station House Officer Rajesh Kumar said that no complaint has been filed by either family. After completing the preliminary investigation and post-mortem formalities, police proceeded with the case under standard legal procedures.
Authorities stated that, based on the available evidence, no further legal action has been initiated at this stage.
