Manpreet Selected for Commonwealth Games, Sets National Shot Put Record Twice

Manpreet Commonwealth Games Selection, June 18: Ambala’s celebrated shot put athlete Manpreet Kaur has once again brought pride to Haryana after being selected for the upcoming Commonwealth Games. The experienced athlete, who has represented India on multiple international platforms, is set to compete in the prestigious event for the third time.

A resident of Jasmeet Nagar in Ambala, Manpreet has enjoyed an impressive athletic career spanning nearly two decades. Since winning her first senior national medal in 2006, she has consistently remained among India’s top shot put athletes. Over the years, she has secured 14 national gold medals and established herself as one of the country’s most successful field-event competitors.

One of her biggest achievements came in 2015 when she set a national record with a throw of 17.96 meters. She later broke her own record in 2022 by registering a remarkable throw of 18.06 meters, becoming a two-time national record holder in the process.

Manpreet’s journey has not been without challenges. Despite facing setbacks, including a four-year suspension in 2017, she made a strong comeback and continued to perform at the highest level. Her determination and resilience have made her an inspiration for aspiring athletes across the country.

The upcoming Commonwealth Games, scheduled to be held in Glasgow from July 23 to August 2, will provide Manpreet another opportunity to compete on the international stage and chase a medal for India. She remains the first woman from Haryana to represent the state in shot put at both the Olympics and the Commonwealth Games.

Speaking about her selection, Manpreet said her primary focus is on winning a medal this time. She recently added another achievement to her name by setting a state shot put record on May 31, 2026.

Manpreet currently works with the railways under the sports quota and trains at the National Institute of Sports in Patiala. Her husband, a former national gold medalist in shot put, also serves as her coach and has played a significant role in her sporting journey.
