Ambala’s Manpreet shot put : Ambala’s Manpreet narrowly missed out on a medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, finishing fourth in the women’s shot put final. Competing for India, the athlete produced a strong performance but lost her chance of securing a medal after a small error during her final attempt.

Manpreet entered the competition at around 12:30 am on Wednesday night with confidence and made an impressive start. However, the contest among 12 of the world’s top women shot put athletes was extremely competitive.

Final Attempt Costs Manpreet a Medal

According to the report, Manpreet’s decisive final attempt did not go as planned. She reportedly lost her grip on the shot while making the throw and could not achieve the required distance.

The narrow difference in performance ultimately left her in fourth place, just outside the medal positions.

Manpreet had received a direct entry into the final after changes to the competition schedule resulted in the qualifying round being cancelled. The opportunity gave her a chance to compete directly against the leading athletes in the final.

Ambala Athlete Has 14 National Medals

Manpreet, who lives in Jasmeet Nagar in Ambala City, began her shot put journey in 2006. Over nearly two decades in the sport, she has won 14 national medals and has set national records twice.

Her background in weightlifting has also contributed to her strength as a power thrower. She is reportedly capable of bench pressing up to 145 kg, which has helped her develop the strength required for shot put.

Strong Performance Despite Missing Medal

This was Manpreet’s second Commonwealth Games appearance. Although she could not secure a medal this time, her performance on the international stage has been a significant achievement.

Her fourth-place finish reflects her ability to compete among some of the world’s best shot put athletes. Despite the disappointment of narrowly missing the podium, Manpreet’s journey and performance have earned appreciation from supporters in Ambala and across India.
