Dirty and Foul-Smelling Water Supply in Dayalbagh Triggers Public Outrage

Dayalbagh Dirty Water Supply Triggers Public Outrage

Residents Warn of Protest as Complaints to Public Health Department Go Unresolved

Residents of Dayalbagh, Ambala, are facing serious hardships due to the continuous supply of dirty and foul-smelling drinking water. Locals allege that despite repeatedly reporting the issue to the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), no effective action has been taken. Frustrated by the lack of response, residents have warned that they will stage a protest outside the department’s office if the problem is not resolved soon.

According to residents, the issue began after a sewer line was laid parallel to the drinking water pipeline in the locality. They claim that the aging water pipeline has developed leaks, allowing contaminated sewage water to mix with the drinking water supply. As a result, households have been receiving muddy, foul-smelling water, raising serious concerns about public health.

Residents Fear Health Risks

Residents including Gopal, Pankaj, Manoj, and Mamta said the contaminated water poses a significant health hazard, particularly for children and elderly people. Several families have already reported stomach-related illnesses, and locals fear that if immediate corrective measures are not taken, the situation could lead to the outbreak of waterborne diseases.

They further alleged that complaints have been submitted to local junior engineers as well as senior officials, but every complaint has only resulted in verbal assurances without any on-ground inspection or permanent solution. According to the residents, officials continue to cite technical issues instead of fixing the problem.

Locals Express Their Frustration

Jyoti, a local resident, said they have been consuming dirty and foul-smelling water for a long time, and the situation has become critical due to the mixing of sewer water with the drinking water pipeline.

Sonu Sethi stated that repeated complaints have gone unheard, leaving residents with no option but to take to the streets in protest.

Savitri criticized the department for remaining a silent spectator despite being fully aware of the issue. She said it was surprising that no official had visited the site even after multiple complaints.

Chandresh Sharma added that while the department called two or three times after receiving complaints, no team ever arrived to inspect the affected area or assess the residents’ difficulties.

Department Responds

Responding to the allegations, Balinder Singh, SDO, Public Health Engineering Department, Ambala, said that the department is working to resolve the dirty water supply issue in Dayalbagh. He assured that necessary measures are being taken so residents do not continue to face inconvenience.

Although the department has promised action, residents say they expect a permanent solution rather than repeated assurances. If the water quality does not improve soon, they plan to organize a public demonstration to demand immediate intervention.
