Ambala robbery case
Ambala, August 29, 2026: The CIA-1 team of Ambala Police has arrested another accused in connection with the robbery of gold jewelry near Virat Nagar in Ambala City. Police have identified the arrested accused as Sandeep, also known as Chetan Kumar, a resident of Noida. Jewelry worth approximately ₹15 lakh has reportedly been recovered from his possession.
The robbery took place on August 18, when armed miscreants allegedly stopped a vehicle near Virat Nagar in the Baldev Nagar police station area. According to the complaint, the suspects threatened the occupants with weapons and fled with a large quantity of gold jewelry. They also took the victim’s car but abandoned it a short distance away on 12 Cross Road in Ambala Cantonment.
The case was reported by Rajnish Kumar, a resident of Ludhiana, who approached the Baldev Nagar police with a complaint following the incident.
Employee Allegedly Planned the Robbery
During the investigation, CIA-1 had earlier arrested Ritesh, an employee of the victim, who is a resident of Ambala City. Police said that Ritesh was allegedly the key person behind the robbery and had planned the crime with an acquaintance.
According to CIA-1 Inspector Parmveer Singh, Ritesh allegedly provided the robbers with information about the gold being transported in the vehicle and the exact details of when it would reach Ambala. His information is believed to have helped the accused target the vehicle.
During further investigation, the name of Chetan Kumar alias Sandeep, a resident of Noida, emerged in connection with the robbery. The CIA-1 team subsequently arrested him and recovered jewelry worth ₹15 lakh, according to police.
Another Accused Still Being Sought
Police said that the investigation is still underway and efforts are being made to identify and arrest another person allegedly involved in the robbery.
Both arrested accused were produced before a court on Friday and were subsequently sent to judicial custody. Police are continuing their investigation to establish the complete sequence of events and recover any remaining stolen property.
The case highlights how information allegedly provided by an insider was used to target the vehicle carrying gold jewelry. Police are now investigating the involvement of all suspects and tracing the remaining stolen jewelry.
