Ambala Medical Store Raid, Haryana: The Drug Control Department conducted surprise inspections at seven medical stores across Ambala City and Ambala Cantonment and found three stores allegedly selling anabolic steroids without valid prescriptions. The department has issued show-cause notices to the store owners and warned of strict action, including suspension of their drug sale licenses if satisfactory explanations are not submitted.
Surprise Raids Conducted Using Decoy Customers
Drug Control Officer Hemant Grover led the inspection team on Sunday as part of a special drive to curb the illegal sale of performance-enhancing drugs. The department used decoy customers who visited medical stores posing as buyers seeking anabolic steroids, peptide hormones, and growth hormones commonly misused to improve athletic performance.
During the operation, three medical stores were found selling Decaburbolin 50 mg Nandrolone Decanoate injections without asking for a valid doctor’s prescription.
Medical Stores Issued Show-Cause Notices
The stores that received notices include:
- Shakti Medicos, Baldev Nagar (near SBI)
- City Pharmacy, Rana Market, opposite Mahesh Nagar Police Station
- M Plus Pharmaceuticals, Manali House, Ambala City
Officials stated that these stores have been directed to explain why action should not be taken against them. If their responses are found unsatisfactory, their licenses may be suspended under the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.
Irregularities Found at Four Other Medical Stores
The inspection team also checked four additional medical stores during the drive. While no illegal steroid sales were detected at these locations, officials found documentation and regulatory irregularities. Their records have been forwarded for further departmental action.
The stores inspected include:
- Dawaindia Healthcare Mart Ltd., Baldev Nagar
- Jyoti Medico, BC Bazaar
- Sarwara Medical Hall, Amar Market
- Yash Medicos, Durga Nagar
Department Warns of Strict Legal Action
Drug Control Officer Hemant Grover said that strict legal proceedings are being initiated against the firms found violating the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940 and the Drugs and Cosmetics Rules, 1945.
He emphasized that medical stores selling steroids or controlled medicines without a doctor’s prescription will not be spared, adding that similar surprise inspections will continue in the future to prevent misuse of such drugs and ensure public safety.
