Ambala, August 27, 2026: Passengers at Ambala Cantt Railway Station can now purchase snacks and beverages more conveniently with the installation of automatic food vending machines. The machines have been introduced to provide passengers with easy access to packaged food and drinks while also reducing issues related to overcharging and the availability of change.
Five vending machines have initially been installed at different strategic locations across the station. Passengers can make purchases through digital payments or designated coins and notes and collect their selected items directly from the machines.
Five Vending Machines Installed at Key Locations
According to the information in the report, three machines have been installed around Platform No. 1, including locations near the AC waiting hall, unreserved ticket counter and parcel office. Two additional machines have been placed between Platforms 2-3 and 6-7.
The machines offer a range of packaged food and beverages. Passengers can purchase items such as chocolates, juices, milk packets, chips, Kurkure and cold drinks.
Relief From Overcharging and Change-Related Problems
Food and beverage purchases at railway stations have sometimes led to complaints from passengers regarding vendors charging more than the prescribed price. The lack of change has also been a common source of inconvenience and arguments between passengers and vendors.
Passengers have previously raised such complaints through platforms including Rail Madad and social media. The introduction of automated vending machines is expected to provide an alternative purchasing option and make transactions more straightforward.
With the new machines, passengers can select the required product themselves and pay using digital payment methods or the specified denominations of coins and notes. This also allows them to buy commonly required snacks and beverages without having to search for a vendor.
More Machines May Be Added
The railway administration has initially placed the five machines at locations where passenger movement is significant. The move is part of efforts to improve passenger convenience and provide food and beverages within easy reach.
Yashanjeet Singh, Senior Commercial Manager of Ambala Railway Division, said that the response from passengers has been positive. Based on this response, the railway administration is expected to begin the process of installing more vending machines at other parts of the station.
The objective is to make quality food and beverages readily accessible to passengers during their journey while improving the overall passenger experience at Ambala Cantt Railway Station.
What Passengers Can Buy
The newly installed machines currently provide several commonly consumed packaged products, including:
- Chocolates
- Juice
- Milk packets
- Chips
- Kurkure
- Cold drinks
The facility is particularly useful for passengers who need a quick snack or beverage while waiting for their train.
Ambala Cantt Station Moves Toward Greater Passenger Convenience
The installation of automatic food vending machines adds another technology-enabled facility for passengers at Ambala Cantt Railway Station. By allowing passengers to select and pay for products themselves, the facility is designed to make food purchases quicker and more convenient.
If the positive response continues, additional machines may be introduced at other locations within the station in the coming days.
