Ambala salary scam
Ambala, Haryana: The Economic Offences Wing has arrested former Senior Medical Officer (SMO) Dr. Tarun Prasad in connection with the alleged ₹1.20 crore salary scam at the Community Health Centre (CHC) in Shahzadpur, Ambala.
After completing three days of police remand, Dr. Tarun Prasad was produced before a court on Sunday and sent to judicial custody. During the remand period, investigators reportedly recovered ₹2 lakh related to the case.
Another accused in the case, MPHW Jarnail Singh, who is alleged to have received several times his actual salary in his bank account, remains absconding. Police teams are conducting raids at possible locations to trace and arrest him.
Salary Scam Initially Estimated at ₹94 Lakh
The alleged salary scam came to light on May 12, 2026, when a CM Flying Squad conducted a raid and initially detected irregularities involving around ₹94 lakh.
According to the investigation, Dr. Tarun Prasad and MPHW Jarnail Singh were allegedly involved in the misappropriation of the funds. Both accused had reportedly been absconding since the case was uncovered.
Further investigation by the Health Department increased the estimated amount involved in the alleged scam from ₹94 lakh to ₹1.20 crore.
18 Employees Issued Notices
The investigation also found that additional salary amounts had allegedly been transferred into the bank accounts of several employees. Following the findings, the Health Department issued notices to 18 employees whose accounts reportedly received excess salary payments.
Officials are continuing to examine the financial transactions and records connected with the case to determine how the alleged salary irregularities occurred and identify all those responsible.
The arrest of the former SMO is considered a significant development in the investigation. Police are continuing efforts to locate MPHW Jarnail Singh, who remains wanted in connection with the case.
The investigation is ongoing, and further details are expected as authorities examine the financial records and question those linked to the alleged salary scam.
