E-Rickshaw Driver Robbed
Ambala City: An e-rickshaw driver was allegedly robbed by two youths after they hired his vehicle and took him to an isolated area in Ambala. The suspects reportedly fled with ₹1,600 in cash, an ATM card, driving licence and other important documents.
According to the complaint filed with the Baldev Nagar police, the incident took place on August 11. The complainant, identified as Ajmer Singh, a resident of Preet Colony, told police that he was driving his e-rickshaw from Inco Chowk towards Agrasen Chowk at around 2 pm.
When Singh reached near the Prem Nagar cut, two young men standing there stopped him and asked to go to Model Town. The youths agreed to pay ₹20 per passenger and boarded the e-rickshaw.
After reaching Model Town, the two suspects allegedly forced the driver to take them towards Virat Nagar. They took him to a deserted location, where they allegedly snatched his purse.
The purse reportedly contained ₹1,600 in cash, an ATM card, driving licence and other documents.
After committing the robbery, the two youths allegedly escaped on a motorcycle with the help of a third accomplice who was waiting nearby.
The incident was reported to the Baldev Nagar police station, following which police registered a case against unidentified persons. Police have started an investigation and are working to identify and trace the suspects.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of e-rickshaw drivers, particularly when passengers ask them to travel to isolated areas. Police are examining the circumstances surrounding the incident and are likely to check available CCTV footage and other evidence to identify those involved.
Police Investigation Underway
Baldev Nagar police have registered the case and begun investigating the robbery. Further details, including the identities of the accused and recovery of the stolen belongings, are awaited.
