Illegal Encroachment on Village Pond

Ambala, August 8, 2026: Tension was reported in Foksa village of Barara area on Friday when an administrative team arrived to conduct a demarcation of land belonging to a village pond, locally known as a johad, following complaints of alleged illegal encroachment.

The administration carried out the demarcation exercise amid opposition from some villagers. The situation briefly became tense, but police personnel present at the spot intervened and managed to calm the protesters. The official team subsequently completed the demarcation process peacefully.

According to the report, village resident Bodhraj had submitted written complaints regarding alleged encroachments on three major village ponds. His complaints were reportedly submitted to officials ranging from the Block Development and Panchayat Officer (BDPO) office to the Chief Minister’s office.

Taking note of the complaints, the BDPO directed the Panchayat Department to conduct an on-site inspection and demarcation of the disputed pond land.

Following the directions, Panchayat Department Kanungo Sonia reached Foksa village along with her team to inspect and measure the pond land. During the process, some people present at the site objected to the team’s action.

After receiving information about the opposition, Barara police station in-charge Ramkaran reached the spot with police personnel. The police spoke to the people opposing the action and brought the situation under control.

The demarcation exercise was then completed without any major incident.

Kanungo Sonia said that a detailed measurement report would be prepared and submitted to senior officials. Further action regarding the alleged encroachments will be taken on the basis of the report and the directions of the competent authorities.

The administration’s action is part of the process of verifying complaints regarding encroachment on village pond land. The final decision on any alleged illegal occupation will depend on the official demarcation report and subsequent administrative proceedings.
