Chandigarh Railway Station to Witness 12-Day Mega Block from August 8; Passengers Advised to Check Platform Changes

Chandigarh railway station mega block

Ambala, August 6: Passengers travelling through Chandigarh Railway Station have been advised to verify their train platforms before starting their journey, as a major infrastructure upgrade will lead to traffic blocks and platform changes beginning August 8. The redevelopment work, being carried out by the Rail Land Development Authority (RLDA), will affect train operations in phases until early September.

According to railway officials, construction work involving the casting of through-roof columns on Platforms 2/3 and 4/5 will require scheduled traffic and overhead equipment (OHE) blocks under the Ambala Division of Northern Railway.

Mega Block Schedule

The construction activity will take place in two separate phases, each involving four-hour traffic blocks on selected railway lines.

  • Phase 1: On August 8, 12, 19, 26, 31, and September 4, traffic blocks will remain in effect from 10:10 AM to 2:10 PM on railway lines 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8.
  • Phase 2: On August 10, 17, 21, 28, and September 2 & 6, blocks will be implemented from 9:45 AM to 1:45 PM on lines 6, 7, and 8.

Railway authorities have clarified that no train will be cancelled or short-terminated during the construction period.

Dibrugarh–Chandigarh Express to Run Late

As part of traffic regulation measures, Train No. 15903 Dibrugarh–Chandigarh Express will be regulated between Saharanpur and Chandigarh, resulting in a delay of approximately 60 minutes on August 10, 17, 24, 31, and September 4.

Officials stated that these adjustments are necessary to ensure safe execution of the station redevelopment project while maintaining rail services.

Platforms Changed for Eight Trains

Several trains departing from Chandigarh Railway Station will use different platforms during the block period. Passengers are requested to pay attention to station announcements and digital display boards.

The revised platform allocations include:

  • 12046 Chandigarh–New Delhi Shatabdi Express – Platform 2 (instead of Platform 6)
