Barara Grain Market Waterlogging – Traders and farmers at Barara Grain Market have expressed growing concern over severe waterlogging at Gate No. 2, where recent rainfall has turned the parking area into a pool of stagnant water. The accumulation of dirty water, mud, and foul smell has made it difficult for traders, commission agents, farmers, and visitors to enter and exit the market.
Rainwater Creates Problems for Traders and Farmers
With the onset of the monsoon, the parking area near Gate No. 2 has once again become waterlogged. Traders say the stagnant water has disrupted daily business activities, making it challenging to transport goods and move around the market safely.
According to local traders, the issue has persisted for the last three years, despite repeated assurances from authorities regarding drainage improvements and parking development.
Rotting Crop Waste Raises Health Concerns
Traders also claimed that leftover sunflower crop residue lying in the stagnant water has started decomposing, leading to an increase in mosquitoes, flies, and foul odour. They fear that the unhygienic conditions could increase the risk of infectious diseases during the rainy season.
Local traders, including Karamjeet Singh, Manish Kumar, and Amit Sharma, have urged the Market Committee to implement a permanent drainage solution, carry out regular fogging, and remove accumulated waste from the area.
Market Committee Promises Permanent Solution
Responding to the complaints, Rahul Mev, Secretary of the Market Committee, said that work on a new sewage system in the grain market is progressing rapidly. He assured traders that once the sewer line is completed, the long-standing waterlogging problem at Gate No. 2 will be permanently resolved.
The Market Committee also stated that efforts are being made to improve sanitation and infrastructure to ensure smoother operations during the monsoon season.
