Ambala Robbery Case – An auto-rickshaw driver has been arrested in Ambala City for allegedly robbing a 78-year-old man and abandoning him on a deserted road after throwing him out of the vehicle. The victim, Suresh Kumar Sharma, suffered injuries during the incident and was also deprived of cash and personal belongings.
According to police, the incident took place on June 18 when Sharma, a resident of Manali House and brother of a late CBI DSP, was returning home from the tehsil office after completing property-related formalities. Around 5 PM, he boarded an auto-rickshaw from Agrasen Chowk.
During the journey, the driver claimed he had forgotten some belongings and diverted the vehicle toward Manav Chowk. Instead of heading to the passenger’s destination, the driver allegedly took Sharma to a secluded area near Rajasthan Marble on Hisar Road.
There, the accused reportedly pushed the elderly man out of the auto-rickshaw, causing serious injuries. He then tore the victim’s clothes and stole ₹1,570 in cash from his pocket. The driver also took away Sharma’s walking stick before fleeing the scene.
Following the complaint, police examined CCTV footage from the area and identified the accused as Bhura Singh, an auto-rickshaw driver from Singhawala village. Authorities arrested the suspect, recovered the stolen cash and vehicle, and sent him to judicial custody.
The case has raised concerns about the safety of senior citizens using public transport, especially when traveling alone.
