Ambala sanitation workers protest
Ambala, August 26, 2026: The indefinite strike by sanitation and fire department workers of the Ambala Cantonment Municipal Council continued for the 20th consecutive day on Tuesday. As part of their ongoing protest, sanitation workers held a march through the major markets of Ambala Cantonment and appealed to local residents to support their demands.
The workers staged a dharna outside the main gate of the Municipal Council under the leadership of union president Sewaram Bohat. After the protest at the council office, they marched through the markets and raised slogans against the government.
Social and Political Leaders Extend Support
Several leaders from social and political organizations reached the protest site and expressed solidarity with the striking employees.
Jang Sher Sharma, state president of the Rashtriya Parshuram Sena Brahmavahini, and former municipal councillor Gagan Dhang criticized the government over the workers’ demands. They said the demands raised by the sanitation and fire workers were justified.
The leaders also highlighted the role played by sanitation and fire department employees during difficult situations, including the COVID-19 pandemic. They said these workers continued their duties during health emergencies and other crises while putting their own safety at risk.
They termed the alleged neglect of the workers’ demands by the Haryana government unfortunate and called for their issues to be addressed.
Municipal Council Employees Wear Black Badges
The impact of the strike was also visible inside the Municipal Council office. Other employees working in the office wore black badges to express solidarity with their colleagues who have been participating in the indefinite strike.
The show of support from employees inside the office has added to the pressure surrounding the ongoing protest.
The gathering and protest were also addressed by district president Beerpal Kangra, along with Rahul, Sumit, Sunil, Vikrant, Rajesh, Rinku, Suresh, Papinder, Anil and Vinod.
The sanitation and fire workers have continued their indefinite strike while seeking action on their demands. The protest entered its 20th day on Tuesday, with workers taking their campaign directly to the markets to seek support from the public.
