Arya College Ambala
Ambala: National Library Day was celebrated at the library of Arya College, Ambala Cantonment, to mark the birth anniversary of Padma Shri Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, widely regarded as the father of library science.
The programme began with college principal Dr. Anju Bala paying floral tribute to Dr. Ranganathan’s portrait. The event focused on encouraging students to develop reading habits and take greater interest in library resources.
As part of the celebrations, the college organised a slogan writing competition and a quiz competition based on Haryana. Around 37 students participated in the competitions with enthusiasm.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Anju Bala said that developing a regular reading habit plays an important role in a student’s academic growth as well as overall personality development. She emphasised that reading helps students broaden their knowledge, perspective and understanding.
College librarian Dr. Priya Sharma spoke about the life and contribution of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan. She also explained his five laws of library science to the students. She said that the success of a library should not be judged only by the number of books it has, but also by how easily students can access and make use of those resources.
In the slogan writing competition, Shweta secured the first position, while Khushi stood second and Rupali secured third place. Rupa received the consolation prize.
The Haryana quiz competition was won by Team B, comprising Alka, Preeti and Rupa. The team performed strongly and secured the top position in the competition.
The programme was supported by members of the college library committee along with Dr. Mamta Bhatnagar, Sonia Shastri, Dr. Suman Bala, Sandhya and other staff members.
The event highlighted the importance of reading and libraries in students’ academic and personal development while also providing them with an opportunity to showcase their knowledge and creativity.
