Sadashiva Jyoti Stambh Katha
Ambala City: A week-long Shri Shiv Mahapuran Katha is being organized at Amar Katha Kabir Ashram in Nagar Khera, Moti Nagar, Ambala City. On the second day of the religious event, Acharya Sanatan Chaitanya narrated the story of the appearance of Lord Sadashiva in the form of a divine pillar of light.
During the program, Suraj Prakash Goyal and his family performed the worship of the Vyas Peeth and the sacred scripture. Pandit Ravindra Nath Tiwari and Devi Prasad Bhardwaj conducted the rituals with Vedic chants.
Shiv Mahapuran Described as the Word Form of Lord Shiva
Acharya Sanatan Chaitanya explained that the Shiv Mahapuran is considered the word-form of Lord Shiva and contains the essence of the Vedas. According to the story narrated during the Katha, at the time of the great dissolution, only Sadashiva existed.
He explained that Lord Sadashiva created Brahma from his right side and Lord Vishnu from his left side. Later, Brahma and Vishnu became involved in a dispute over who was superior.
As the dispute intensified, a massive pillar of divine light appeared between them. Both Brahma and Vishnu decided to discover its beginning and end.
Brahma and Vishnu Tried to Find the Beginning and End
According to the religious narrative, Brahma took the form of a swan and traveled upward to find the top of the pillar, while Vishnu assumed the form of a boar and went downward to find its bottom.
After making efforts for a very long period, Vishnu accepted that the beginning and end of the pillar could not be discovered and returned. Brahma also failed to reach its end. However, he allegedly asked a Ketaki flower to give false testimony in his favor.
The story states that Lord Sadashiva then appeared from the pillar of light. He punished Brahma for speaking falsely and declared that Brahma would not be worshipped. Lord Vishnu, who had accepted the truth, was given special recognition, and the name Satyanarayan was associated with him.
Significance of Mahashivratri and Shivling Worship
Acharya Sanatan Chaitanya further explained the religious significance of the appearance of the divine pillar. According to the Shiv Mahapuran tradition, the pillar of light appeared on the Chaturdashi of the Krishna Paksha in the month of Phalguna. This day is observed as Mahashivratri.
He said that Brahma and Vishnu were believed to have performed the first worship of the Shivling on this occasion and also performed its Abhishek.
The Acharya highlighted the importance of Shivling worship as described in the Shiv Mahapuran and encouraged devotees to understand the spiritual significance behind the traditions associated with Lord Shiva.
The religious program concluded with an evening Aarti, followed by the distribution of Prasad among the devotees.
