Ambala Pays Tribute, August 4: The memories and contributions of legendary Hindi novelist Munshi Premchand, freedom fighter Shaheed Udham Singh, and iconic playback singer Mohammed Rafi were celebrated during a special literary seminar organized in Ambala Cantonment. The event was jointly hosted by the Janwadi Lekhak Sangh and the Pragatisheel Lekhak Sangh at the Railway Colony, bringing together writers, poets, and literature enthusiasts.
The seminar highlighted the lasting impact of these three national icons on Indian society, literature, patriotism, and culture. Speakers paid floral tributes and reflected on their remarkable contributions, emphasizing the need to preserve their ideals for future generations.
Delivering the keynote address, Om Banmali described Premchand as a literary pioneer whose stories fearlessly exposed social inequalities, poverty, and injustice. He said the celebrated author’s works continue to inspire readers and writers by promoting equality, humanity, and social reform.
Professor Gurdev Singh Dev spoke extensively about the life and sacrifice of Shaheed Udham Singh, recalling his unwavering patriotism and his determination to seek justice for the victims of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre. He encouraged the younger generation to learn from Udham Singh’s courage, dedication, and love for the nation.
During the seminar, Gurmeet Singh remembered legendary singer Mohammed Rafi, describing him as an artist whose voice transcended religion, language, and regional boundaries. He noted that Rafi’s timeless songs continue to unite audiences across generations while reflecting values of harmony, compassion, and humanity.
Adding a musical tribute to the event, Pankaj Sharma performed the patriotic classic “Kar Chale Hum Fida”, which received an emotional response from the audience. Several poets also recited verses dedicated to the three personalities, making the gathering both literary and patriotic in spirit.
The organizers said such programs help keep alive the legacy of India’s literary, cultural, and national heroes while encouraging meaningful discussions on their relevance in contemporary society.
