Heavy Rain in Ambala, August 4: Heavy rainfall that began around 5:00 AM on Tuesday caused widespread waterlogging across Ambala, severely affecting daily life in both Ambala City and Ambala Cantonment. Several major roads, residential colonies, and market areas were submerged under knee-deep water, disrupting traffic and forcing commuters to wade through flooded streets.
Residents reported that even a few hours of continuous rain exposed the city’s poor drainage infrastructure. Water accumulated rapidly in low-lying areas, creating traffic jams and making it difficult for pedestrians, two-wheelers, and four-wheelers to move safely. In several locations, vehicles were seen struggling through flooded roads, while many commuters were forced to wait until water levels receded.
The rainfall impacted key areas across the city, including market roads and residential neighborhoods, where stagnant water entered shop entrances and lanes. Local residents expressed frustration, stating that waterlogging has become a recurring problem every monsoon despite repeated complaints to civic authorities.
Municipal officials monitored the situation as drainage teams were deployed to clear blocked sewer lines and improve water flow. Pumps were also used in some areas to remove accumulated rainwater. However, residents demanded a permanent solution, saying temporary measures fail to address the underlying drainage issues.
The heavy rain also brought relief from the recent spell of humid weather, with temperatures dropping noticeably during the morning hours. Weather forecasts indicate that intermittent showers may continue over the next day, prompting authorities to advise commuters to drive cautiously and avoid waterlogged routes wherever possible.
Citizens have urged the municipal administration to upgrade Ambala’s drainage system before the remainder of the monsoon season to prevent repeated flooding and inconvenience.
