Ambala Kanwar Yatra traffic diversion, August 1: The Ambala Police have released a special traffic plan for the Kanwar Yatra 2026, introducing route diversions and restrictions on heavy vehicles from August 9 to August 11. The revised traffic arrangements aim to ensure the safe movement of Kanwariyas and reduce congestion across major roads in the district.
Diversion Plan Effective From August 9
According to the police administration, the new traffic plan will come into effect at 7:00 AM on August 9 and remain in force until 12:00 midnight on August 11.
Heavy commercial vehicles will be restricted from entering designated Kanwar routes, while emergency services, including ambulances, will remain on standby throughout the event.
Ambulances Deployed at Six Key Locations
To handle any medical emergencies during the pilgrimage, ambulances will be stationed round-the-clock at the following locations:
- Saha Chowk
- Narayangarh Mor, Shahzadpur
- Dosadka Chowk, Mullana
- MT Crossing, Ambala City
- Kalka Chowk, Ambala City
- Under Ambala Cantt Bus Stand Bridge
Three Main Routes for Kanwariyas
The administration has designated three primary routes for Kanwar pilgrims:
Route 1
- Entry: Manka-Manki Border (Yamunanagar)
- Exit: Shambhu Border (Patiala) and Saddopur Border (Mohali)
Route 2
- Entry: Manka-Manki Border
- Exit: Kakkar Majra Border (Panchkula)
Route 3
- Entry: Pahadipur Border
- Exit: Bhurewala and Kakkar Majra Borders (Panchkula)
Heavy Vehicle Diversions
Kalpi Overbridge Checkpoint
Heavy vehicles travelling from Mullana towards Saha will be diverted via the Yamunanagar–Panchkula route. Only light vehicles and Kanwar-related vehicles will be permitted towards Saha Chowk.
Dhanora Cut – Dosadka Bridge
Heavy vehicles heading towards Yamunanagar will not be allowed on the flyover. They will be diverted from Dosadka Chowk towards Sadhora.
Alternative Routes for General Traffic
To avoid inconvenience, the administration has suggested alternative routes for regular commuters:
- Travellers from Yamunanagar to Ambala should use the route via Shahzadpur, Dhanana, Patvi, Handesra, and Panjokhra.
- Vehicles from Dosadka Chowk towards Yamunanagar should take the Dhanora–Sadhora–Bilaspur route.
Police have appealed to commuters to follow the diversion plan, cooperate with traffic personnel, and plan their journeys in advance to ensure smooth traffic movement during the Kanwar Yatra.
