Ambala love marriage assault, August 1: A dispute over a love marriage allegedly turned violent in Ambala City after the uncle of a young woman reportedly entered the groom’s family home and assaulted the groom’s mother with a brick. Police have registered a case against the accused and started an investigation.
Assault Reported at Family Home
According to police, the incident took place in Jogiwara, Ambala City. The victim, Geeta Devi, alleged that the accused, identified as Baljit Singh, forcibly entered her house and attacked her, leaving her with a head injury.
Police have registered an FIR against the accused under relevant provisions related to voluntarily causing hurt, house trespass, and criminal intimidation.
Marriage Followed by Security Request
Geeta Devi told police that her elder son Ajay Singh married Harpreet Kaur, a resident of Asarpur village in Patiala, in a love marriage on July 16.
Following the marriage, the couple approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court seeking protection. They have reportedly been staying in a safe house in Ambala City since July 24.
Family Alleges Attack Over Marriage
According to the complaint, on the evening of July 30, Geeta Devi and her younger son Gurdit Singh were at home when Baljit Singh allegedly entered the house without permission.
The complainant alleged that the accused blamed the family for the love marriage, saying it had brought embarrassment to his relatives and society. He allegedly slapped Geeta Devi several times before picking up a brick and striking her on the forehead, causing bleeding injuries.
Police Register FIR
Based on the complaint, Ambala City police have registered a case against the accused under sections related to:
- Voluntarily causing hurt
- House trespass
- Criminal intimidation
Police said further investigation is underway, and appropriate legal action will be taken based on the evidence collected.
