Ambala Tempo Traveller accident – Ten members of the same family were injured after a Tempo Traveller collided with a Hydra crane on the Ambala–Jagadhri Highway near Rampur village on Thursday morning. The family was returning to Saharanpur after a vacation in Jammu and Kashmir when the accident occurred.
According to police and eyewitnesses, the crash took place at around 6:00 a.m. when a Hydra crane, reportedly moving from the wrong direction, attempted to cross the highway without ensuring the road was clear. The Tempo Traveller crashed into the heavy vehicle, leaving its front portion severely damaged and trapping several passengers inside.
Driver Blames Hydra Operator for Negligence
Tempo Traveller driver Vipin told police at the Civil Hospital in Ambala Cantonment that he had taken the passengers from Saharanpur to Jammu and Kashmir for a week-long holiday. The group had begun their return journey on Wednesday, and the accident happened the following morning near Ambala.
According to the driver, the Hydra operator suddenly turned the vehicle across the highway from the wrong direction, giving him no time to avoid the collision. He also alleged that the crane driver fled the scene immediately after the accident.
Four Victims Referred to Chandigarh
The collision left 10 members of the family injured, with four suffering serious injuries. The critically injured include:
- Jehangir Alam (40)
- Abdul Wahid (30)
- Salman (28)
- Gulfam (18)
All four were referred to a hospital in Chandigarh for advanced treatment.
The remaining injured—Avdot (28), Usma (11), Misbah (25), and driver Vipin (26)—received first aid at the Civil Hospital in Ambala and were later discharged. Two other family members also sustained minor injuries.
Passersby Rescue Trapped Passengers
The accident occurred early in the morning when traffic on the highway was relatively light. Morning walkers, commuters, and local residents rushed to help after hearing the impact.
Since the front of the Tempo Traveller was badly crushed and the rear door became jammed, rescuers broke access through the vehicle’s windows to pull out the injured passengers. Police teams from Dial 112 and Mahesh Nagar Police Station arrived shortly afterward and shifted the victims to the hospital for treatment.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the accident, and efforts are underway to identify and trace the Hydra crane driver who allegedly fled after the collision.
