Fully Electric AC Bus Fleet – Ambala has achieved a major milestone in public transportation by becoming the first city in Haryana to operate a completely electric air-conditioned local bus fleet. The initiative is expected to improve commuting facilities for residents while also supporting environmentally friendly transportation across the city.
The development was announced after 10 new electric AC buses were added to the city’s local transport network. With the addition of these buses, all 25 buses operating under the city service have now been converted to electric vehicles. Officials stated that the move will help reduce air pollution and provide passengers with a more comfortable travel experience, especially during the summer season.
According to transport department officials, the local bus service was revived in November 2024 after remaining inactive for many years. Since its relaunch, the service has witnessed strong public response and currently operates on 17 routes across Ambala. The service has reportedly carried more than 22 lakh passengers and generated significant revenue for the transport department.
Residents have welcomed the introduction of the electric buses, citing improved comfort, lower noise levels, and better connectivity between various parts of the city. The government has also indicated plans to introduce a real-time bus tracking system and mobile application that will allow commuters to monitor bus locations and arrival times more efficiently.
The transition to a fully electric bus fleet places Ambala among the leading cities in Haryana adopting sustainable transportation solutions. Experts believe such initiatives can contribute significantly to cleaner urban environments and encourage greater use of public transport.
Local authorities have urged residents to make greater use of the city bus service as efforts continue to strengthen public transportation infrastructure and enhance commuting convenience across Ambala.
